Three Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Outdoor Space

Three Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Outdoor Space

We’ve all been spending a lot more time at home lately, and those who have an outdoor space are certainly making the most of it this summer. Even if you don’t have a Pinterest-worthy oasis in your backyard, it’s not as difficult to achieve as it seems. With a few upgrades, your outdoor area can be more inviting than ever.

The best part? You don’t need a lot of space. Most of these tips work just as well for small patios, balconies, or yards as they do for large areas. Additionally, because home-owners now consider outdoor living spaces a must-have, upgrading your outdoor space could increase the value of your home.

Outdoor Flooring
One way to make a huge impact on your outdoor area is to add stone or tile pavers. This is a great way to separate the outdoor space from the rest of the yard by providing a designated area for entertaining or for an outdoor kitchen. We love using raw stone for outdoor areas because of its natural beauty and variety. Some choose to lay this material in a square pattern while others experiment with circular designs and pathways. Additionally, it can also be used for an outdoor kitchen or fire pit. Natural stone is a great choice for outdoor areas because of its durability — it can handle weather, high traffic, and heavy furniture with no problem.

Outdoor tile is another beautiful way to section off your outdoor space. Although many people like to use ceramic tile outside, we recommend porcelain tile for outdoor areas because it is resistant to water and heat. This material can be used as flooring for a patio area or for a creative accent wall. It’s also perfect for bold and colorful mosaic designs.

Landscaping
Once you have patio flooring that you love, try upgrading your landscaping next. The landscaping style used should be cohesive with the other elements in the yard. There are a few simple tips we like to follow for DIY landscaping. Mixing plant colors and textures is a great way to draw the eye to the areas you want, and planting in odd-numbered groups is another tip experts swear by. Lastly, use landscape lighting to draw the eye to areas of the yard you want to highlight.

Do It Yourself
If DIYs are your thing, look no further. There are thousands of unique outdoor projects that you can do yourself over the weekend. One of our favorites? This simple wood trellis. Plant some roses, ivy, and climbing vines around this piece, and you’re done.

For those who love designing with natural elements, try building a garden pond for your outdoor space. There’s a reason why garden ponds are so popular — they’re beautiful and relaxing. Build it near your patio, sit back, and enjoy the tranquility.

If your backyard is most often used for entertaining, a DIY fire pit is the project for you. This DIY is exactly what your summer parties and s’mores nights have been missing.

After you’ve upgraded your outdoor flooring, landscaping, and done a few DIYs, your outdoor space will feel completely new. Disclaimer: you may never come back inside after you’re done upgrading — don’t say we didn’t warn you!
