How & When to Clean Your Shower

How & When to Clean Your Shower

You probably use your shower every day, but are you cleaning it that often? Our experts recommend wiping down the shower every day to prevent stains and buildup, and deep cleaning on a weekly basis. This is beneficial for so many reasons. If you want to extend the life of your tile, reduce the time you spend cleaning, and improve the overall appearance of your bathroom, keep reading.

Step One
The first step to a pristine shower is cleaning any areas that have mold or mildew. Our experts recommend using vinegar to scrub away at pesky buildup. To do this, spray the moldy area with distilled vinegar and let it sit for a few hours. Then, use a sponge or abrasive brush to scrub the area until it’s clean, and rinse. For more stubborn areas, try using one part bleach to two parts water to remove mold and mildew and reveal your sparkling shower. If you have a tile shower, focus on the grout next. We recommend using a toothbrush to scrub the grout with baking soda and vinegar before rinsing and admiring.

Step Two

After you’ve tackled mold and the grout, focus on the surrounding areas. Whether you have tile, marble, or an acrylic insert, our favorite surface-cleaning method works like a charm on almost any material. Try using 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar, 1/2 cup ammonia, and 3 quarts of hot water in a spray bottle to cover the shower walls, floor, and hardware. Wait a few minutes to let the material penetrate before grabbing your sponge, scrubbing the surfaces, and rinsing until the water comes out clean.

No matter how often or how thoroughly you clean, some older showers are just too far gone – which means it’s time for something new. Want to know what we recommend? Our tile experts love using ceramic and porcelain tile for its longevity and durability.

The best material for your bathroom depends on your design style, budget, and lifestyle. For example, marble tile is the perfect option for anyone looking to add a luxurious element to their bathroom. Similarly, mosaic tile is fun, colorful, and customizable – making it the ideal option for kids’ bathrooms.
