How to Turn Your Yard Into a Private Oasis

How to Turn Your Yard Into a Private Oasis

After surviving the cold and wet spring, it’s time to prepare your yard for the coming summer and to turn it into your escape from the world. Make it your tech-free zone where you can sit back and relax, dine alfresco, soak up some nature, or cook out under the stars.

Backyard DIY:
Here are some of the top trends for 2018 to weave into your design plan. Add some of these ideas to update your yard, or do a complete overhaul to make it just what you have always dreamed about.

1. Give Your Lighting Pizzazz

Statement lighting is one way to merge the feeling of inside and outside. This can take a number of forms. An elegant vintage chandelier or a modern lighting masterpiece hanging from the roof of a veranda or pergola can be used to draw the eye to a comfortable seating area. Other lighting options include string lights, hanging votives from the trees in unique lanterns, tiki torches, or even a fire bowl to bring friends together for memorable conversations. Create a special place for your fire bowl away from the house using cement-look tiles that are more durable than the real thing to build a patio area open to the stars.

2. Outdoor Dining

Breakfast, lunch, tea, or dinner under the open sky always makes a meal just a little more special.  Add a long vintage table and modern metal chairs for an alfresco dinner, a café table and chairs can be tucked in a nook under the trees for a quick breakfast or tea with friends, or pull some casual bamboo stools up to an outdoor kitchen island for a late afternoon lunch. Outdoor kitchens are a great place to add a personal touch with the addition of colorful Spanish-style tiles.

3. Greenery and Colorful Flowers

Bright colors and décor with a world theme or a touch of mid-century modern can be seen in magazines and online if you look for the newest ideas for Summer 2018 gardens. But what really adds life to your outdoor getaway is the use of pots filled with pink, purple, red, blue, and yellow flowers, or arbors thick with vines ripe with the same colors. For those wanting to save the color for wicker chairs filled with bright pillow fabrics, build a wall of greenery. Build your flower filled back yard with a brick.
