4 Creative Ways to Incorporate Wallpaper In Your Home

Wallpaper is back. Except this time, it’s just a bit more tasteful than your grandmother’s late sixties home. (Sorry, Gram. We mean no disrespect!) After the mid-century pattern explosion, we spent years fearing, even hating, the idea of using wallpaper in our homes. But now we’re back in action and ready to incorporate wallpaper in ways we never have before.

Today, we’re looking at four different ways you can get creative with your wallpaper—and continue staying tasteful while you’re at it.

1. Wallpaper a bookcase

You don’t have to paint a full room or add an exotic accent wall to bring a little color or texture into a space. Using peel and stick wallpaper, you can transform simple pieces of furniture (like a plain, standalone bookcase) and update an entire space in the process.

Because this option requires such a small amount of wallpaper, you can get as bold as you’d like. The goal of this project is to bring a noticeable pop of life to a space. And in order to successfully achieve this goal, it’s important to choose standout patterns and colors that are both unique and prominent.

2. Frame it

You don’t have to cover an entire wall to bring a little life into a space. Framing large cuts of wallpaper and hanging them onto your wall is a unique, alternative option. This is especially useful for those who are renting a space or aren’t comfortable making any permanent changes in their home.

Framing wallpaper allows you to go big and go bold, without sacrificing too much money or time to do so. Plus, with a large enough sample size, you can start to visualize how it might look to cover the entire wall. Who knows, you may just love it enough to do the real thing.

Pro tip: you can also do this with tile. Yeah, that’s a thing.

3. Wallpaper the inside of a closet, laundry room, or pantry

Just because spaces like closets, laundry rooms, and pantries are smaller and less likely to be seen by guests, doesn’t mean you can’t spice them up for your own enjoyment. And utilizing a fresh coat of wallpaper is the perfect way to do so.

Wallpaper lets you bring energy and life into the parts of your home that usually don’t get as much design attention. Plus, when paired with the perfect tiled flooring, you can spruce up a space without spending a lot of time, money, or energy.

Disclaimer: Wallpaper and tile in a laundry room might make you want to do something crazy…like wash more clothes.

4. Wallpaper stair steps

You’ve probably seen the painted stair trend used to add some personality to the foyer of a home. But what about kicking it up a notch and going bold with a patterned wallpaper instead? This simple weekend project allows you to customize your home directly upon entry. Plus, it’s not so bad with first impressions.

In the example below, this DIYer used a subtle pattern to make a statement without overwhelming the space. And in our humble opinion, she did it perfectly.
